JOHN MARR / MASHOGRAPHY
Mashups are
the identity.
Two songs.
One new reality.
Unexpected reworks since 1999, rebuilt as a living archive.
songs.
Unexpected records.
I’m a MARRCHIVE GLOSSARY / 001mashup; (noun)A song or composition created by combining two or more existing recordings—often the vocal from one track over the instrumental of another. DEFINITION LOADED DJ and producer, turning familiar tracks into something unexpected since 1999. This is the Marrchive — more than 27 years of mixes, reworks and unexpected records.
These mashups
travelled.
Passed between DJs, broadcast across continents and dropped onto dancefloors far beyond the room where they were made.
From two ghetto blasters in the mid-90s to Radio 1, Hot 97, DMC, Bootie Mashup and the Tomorrowland mainstage. The technology changed. The instinct never did.
Every mashup.
One living index.

One person.
A lot of records.
I’m John Marr, a mashup DJ and producer. I started mixing and making mashups in 1999, recording my first one using my turntables and Winamp. I’ve been pulling familiar tracks apart and rebuilding them into unexpected new records ever since.
Working under names including NOWMASH, SCO Network, Devious Knights and JAYMAR, my mashups have been featured on MTV Mash and played or supported by BBC Radio 1, Hot 97, DMC, Bootie Mashup and DJs and artists around the world. Mashography brings that work together in one living archive.
If this record was to get released, if they could get through legal wranglings, this would be a number one record, because people go absolutely mad for it.
